It's beginning to feel a lot like Gilligan's Island

I posted this ieri (yesterday):

This translates to "A disaster: Vicenza and half the province under water"

Over the past few giorni, it has rained and rained, and the neve (snow) in the montagne has melted.  Here in Lumignano, which is about otto miglia (eight miles) from Vicenza, it is merely foggy in the hills and the ground is wet everywhere, but it's practically impossible to get into the city.  That's why Conor got out of school early Monday (it took two hours to get home) and he and Annie Cate have had no school yesterday or today, and why Post was closed except for emergency workers (Tara had the day off yesterday too).

Gene and I went to go get pane (bread) and other stuff yesterday mattina (morning), and I took some foto.  Here is a wet cane waiting for his person outside the grocery store:

Most roads were closed to macchine (cars), but we walked down the street a little bit and we came across this place where the Bacchiglione (the river) had overflowed.  Normally, the following is a large field, but now it is under eight to ten feet of rushing water:

We also saw this doghouse that belongs to a cane named Black:

Then we got latte (milk) from the distributore di latte:

Later, I went for a run up a big big collina and down another and then back up and then back down.  I passed the fog line on the way up and on the way down and while I was in the fog I had to stop whenever I heard a macchina (car) approaching.  There were a lot more macchine than usual, because people were using the Colli Berici (the Berico Hills) as an alternate route to Vicenza, since the overflowing of the Bacchiglione has cut off the routes people would normally take.

After my run, we made oatmeal cookies, 52 total:  25 cranberry...

And 27 multi-chip:

We're fine here in Lumignano, although there is a lot of acqua in strange places...

Vista out the car window of water flowing from someone's yard into the street.

...for example, here is a new waterfall visible from the kitchen door:

We're a little bit cut off.  Gene and I were trying to figure out which Gilligan's Island characters we were.  Gene says I am Mary Ann, and he is definitely the professor.  Tara acts a lot like Skipper, and Annie Cate is the Mrs. Howell type:

"Lovey" likes fancy things, and for everything to be just so.

Zoe is Ginger:

We're still debating whether or not Conor is Mr. Howell, but there is no doubt who is Gilligan:

Salve tutti from me, Bridget!

  1. i dunno. Maybe Bridget is Skipper or one of those Mosquitoes that landed --temporarily--for a short season...
